Sir Ian Burnett, the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales visited Malawi at the beginning of June 2023. He visited the Supreme Court of Malawi and held meetings with the Judge President. The CMJA’s Immediate Past President, Justice Charles Mkandawire JA, was invited to meet the Lord Chief Justice during his visit and also accompanied him on the visit of the Supreme Court and attended the lecture given by Sir Ian Burnett at the University of Malawi School of Law on the topic: “Judicial independence and accountability in the 21st century: Challenges and opportunities”. Justice Mkandawire stated that the lecture was “very exciting and there auditorium was filled to capacity with 300 people in attendance“.
